NCTI requires each Paramedic student applicant to take and pass an entrance exam, unless the student can provide a copy of their Associate or Bachelor’s degree. The NCTI EMT-Paramedic Entrance Exam is the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET). The HOBET measures an applicant’s ability in mathematics and science reading comprehension. The HOBET also provides assessment of counseling areas to draw a total picture of the student. Listed below are the areas identified: Essential Math Skills, Reading Comprehension for Science Textbooks, Reading Rate, Critical Thinking Appraisal, Test-taking Skills, Stress Levels, Social Interaction Profile, Learning Styles and Overall Composite Score.

- The HOBET is a timed exam
- No late arrivals are allowed
- Bring your valid driver’s license to the exam
- NCTI will provide scratch paper and a pencil
- Calculators are prohibited

Paramedic Application Process
- Submit a completed Application Packet
- Download the application Forms and Documents
- Application Packet includes: complete NCTI Paramedic Application, copy of valid driver’s license, copy of County-issued EMT-Basic card, copy of high school diploma or GED Certificate
- Mail your completed application packet to NCTI-Administrative Office: 333 Sunrise Avenue, Ste. 500, Roseville, CA 95661
- Incomplete applications will not be considered
- Pass the HOBET entrance exam (see below for upcoming test dates) or
- In lieu of taking the HOBET students may submit a copy of their Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
- Applicants will be accepted on a “first come, first serve” basis
- Provide proof of successful completion a college level Anatomy and Physiology course (“C” or better) before the first day of lecture in the form of a completion certificate or an unofficial transcript.
NCTI offers an accelerated Anatomy and Physiology course before every Paramedic Program start date.
