EMT-Basic Course Information - West Coast Region



What are the pre-requisites to qualify for entrance into the NCTI EMT-Basic Program?
Students must meet the following criterion to enter the EMT-Basic program: 1)be at least 18 years of age 2)possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent

How can I apply for the EMT-B program?
You can initially register online at www.ncti-online.com to reserve your seat in an upcoming class. However, you also need to go by the NCTI office to sign your contract, pick up textbooks and obtain other important documents before the program begins.

What are the immunization requirements?
All EMT-Basic students need to obtain the following immunizations or they will not be able to complete their ride-along: •TB skin test •Hepatitis B series

Is there a reading assignment before the first day of class?
Once you pick up your materials, all students are required to read chapters 1, 2 and 5 of their textbook.

What is the class schedule?
Students meet three times a week, including two evenings from 6:00pm-10:00pm and all day on Saturday (9 hours, including a one-hour lunch break). The weeknights are dependent on the site at which the class is being taught.

What are the requirements for EMT-Basic recertification in the state of California?
EMT's are required to take 24 hours of continuing education units every two years and retest their skills every two years. Students will also need to complete the EMSA skills sign-off form when recertifying.
